Detailed itinerary
Day 1: Arrival and Transfer to Jinja.
Upon your arrival at Entebbe airport, our tour guide will meet you and brief you about the safari depending on the time of your arrival; you will drive to Jinja for lunch after visit the Source of the Nile, Bujagali falls. Day 2: Transfer to Mount Elgon National Park
After breakfast at the lodge you will then be driven to Mount Elgon National Park which is located in Mbale district in the Eastern Uganda. You will have lunch en-route in Mbale town and then proceed to Budadiri visitors centre; you will proceed to Sipi falls through the sipi trail which has bamboo plantation a habitat for a variety of bird species. Sipi falls is the most beautiful waterfall in the whole of Uganda and it is the prefect place to relax and explore the foot hills of Mount Elgon. Day 3: Transfer to Kidepo Valley National park
After early morning breakfast, with your packed lunch, you will then drive to Kidepo Valley National Park through Sironko district to Kotido District, via Kanawat to kaabong then arrive to Kidepo Valley National Park in the evening. The park is located in the northern part of Uganda. The journey to Kidepo Valley National Park is long and the roads are sometimes poor so a 4WD vehicle is essential. Kidepo Valley lies in the rugged semi arid desert of Karamoja.
It is the most alluring national park in Africa boosting a wilderness with over 80 species of mammals including 28 that are found in no other Ugandan National park such as bat eared fox, carcal, cheetah and klipspringer. Upon arrival at the Apoka Safari Lodge you can have an evening panoramic view of Narus river valley where you will be able to spot lions, elephants, Oribis, zebras, spotted hyenas. Day 4: Game drive and Community Walk
After an early morning breakfast, you will have an early morning game drive through the arid river bed, savannah, small forests, hills and the foot hills of the mountain to marvel at the flora and fauna in the area. You will continue the drive to Kanangorok hot spring, where you will spot plenty of wildlife including the 28 species of mammals found nowhere else in Uganda along the way. You will also have a chance to see different species of birds, the park houses over 463 bird species. Return to the lodge for lunch after you will have an evening community walk as you spend some time with the Karamajong people learning about their culture. Karamajong people are proud warriors who believe that all cattle in the world belong to them. You will observe their charming lifestyle and dancing. Day 5: Nature Walk and Afternoon Game Drive in Kidepo.
After breakfast, go for a guided nature walk to enhance your knowledge as you visit the Karamajong homesteads which are locally referred to as manyattas also visit the kraals, view their traditional costumes, jewelry and stools.
Return at the lodge for lunch and thereafter go for an afternoon game drive along the Narus river valley and there you will spot various species of animals including buffalos, zebras, elephants, giraffes and if lucky lions, cheetah and leopards. There are also numerous bird species along the way. This game drive is slow offering you a wonderful opportunity to take photos of wild animals. Day 6: Transfer to Murchison Falls National Park
After breakfast embark on the long drive to Murchison Fall National Park. Murchison Falls National Park is the oldest and largest conservation area in Uganda. You will pass through the districts of Kitgum, Gulu and then cross the Karuma Falls bridge and enter the park in the northeaster corner of the park with lunch en route. You will enter the park from the northern entrance gate with a game drive towards the famous River Nile. Look out for a variety of mammal species like buffalos, elephants, hartebeests, Uganda Kobs. Cross by ferry to paraa. Day 7: Game drive and Boat cruise.
After breakfast, you will embark on the early morning game drive to the northern sector of the park that runs from paraa to lake Albert Delta, which has an overwhelming concentration of wildlife like elephants, lions, hyenas, buffalos, hippos. You will return to the lodge for lunch and thereafter go for the afternoon boat cruise to the bottom of Murchison falls. While on the boat, you will have an excellent game viewing such as schools of hippos, Nile crocodiles just meters from the boat, black and white colobus monkeys, bushbucks, giraffes and a variety of bird species. Day 8: Chimpanzee tracking at Budongo Forest.
After breakfast drive to Kaniyo Pabidi forest found in Budongo forest for chimpanzee tracking. There are 6 groups of habituated chimpanzees which are easily seen since they are used to humans. The guide will lead you to the place where they have nested the previous day. The tracking exercise takes about 3 to 4 hour and thereafter you will spend 1 hour with the chimpanzee. During the forest walk you can also spot different primate species such as baboons, the black and white colobus monkeys and many bird species of birds such as trogon, narina, puvel’s illadopsis not found anywhere in East Africa. After, come back to the lodge for breakfast, later with packed lunch Proceed at the top of the falls which is an incredible sight where you can enjoy the Nile going from a 50 meter wide river through a seven meter wide gorge dropping 43 meters downward. Keep your eyes open for Bat Hawk, Pel’s fishing Owl, Rock Prantincoles, a variety of Nightjars. Day 9: Kampala City Tour.
After an early morning breakfast, the guide will pick you at the lodge and take you to different tour sites in Kampala, visit places like the Kasubi tombs, Bahai temple, Nakasero Market, Uganda museum and Kabaka’s Lake. After lunch our safari guide will drive you to Entebbe international airport to connect to your departure flight back home.
