Day 1: Arrival and Transfer to Nyungwe National Park.
Upon arrival at Kigali international airport, you will be met and greeted by our tour guide/driver who will brief you about the safari and later transfer you to Nyungwe national park. The drive to the park takes about 6-7 hours passing through the hills of Rwanda which is sometimes known as the land of a thousand hills. Chimpanzee-Nyungwe-Forest
Day 2: Chimpanzee Tracking.
After an early morning breakfast, proceed to Nyungwe forest to begin the search for chimpanzees after a short briefing from the ranger guide. The tracking can go from 1-6 hours since meeting them depends on where the chimps last spent their night from. You will also be able to spot other primates such as Rwenzori colobus, L’hoest’s monkeys, silver monkeys, owl faced monkeys, and grey cheeked mangabey. You will also be able to spot other forest habitat like a variety of bird species, reptiles, and butterflies. After the activity return to the lodge for lunch and relax. In the evening, you can opt for an evening forest guided walk to see more bird species and other tree species in the forest. Day 3: Transfer to Ruhengeri
After breakfast you will embark on your long journey to Ruhengeri and you will drive along the foothills of the volcanoes that constitute the volcanoes National Park located in northern Rwanda. The Volcanoes national park is the oldest national park in Africa, created in 1925. It is a home to the few remaining mountain gorillas in the world. After breakfast, you will be driven to the park headquarters to be briefed and assigned a group to trek and a ranger guide. The guide will take you to the trail head where you will start the walk through the rain forest with lively birds and butterflies. You may also be able to spot forest elephants, forest buffalos, golden monkeys, porcupines and red fronted duikers. The trek will go from 1 to 8 hours to meet the gorillas since meeting them depends on which gorilla group you have been assigned to and also on where the gorillas spend their last night from. Once the gorillas are met, you are only allowed one hour with them while studding as well as observing their behaviors. Day 5: Golden monkey tracking.
After breakfast you will again assemble at the headquarters in Kinigi at 7:00am for a short briefing about golden monkey tracking. After, the guide will take you into the forest to begin the search of the golden monkeys deep into the forest. The golden monkeys are among the list of the endangered species according to IUCN and they are only found in the bamboo forests of the Virunga volcanic chain. The search will give you an opportunity to encounter other primates in the forests such as the blue monkeys. Once they are met one hour is strictly allowed to stay with them. After come back to the lodge, in the evening if you still have energy go for an optional visit to the beautiful twin lakes of Ruhundo and Bulera. Day 6: Transfer to Kigali
After breakfast at the lodge, embark on the transfer back to Kigali if you missed the first Kigali city tour go for city and visit the genocide museum and the local markets and have lunch in one of the hotels after you will drive to the airport to catch your flight back home.
