Day 1: Pick up, Kigali city tour & transfer to Gisenyi
The representative from Go Rwanda Safaris will pick you up from your hotel or Kigali International Airport and take you for a city tour. Enjoy a drive in the clean traffic free streets of Kigali city to tour different sites such as the Kimironko Market, Kigali Convention Centre, Presidential Palace and art galleries among others tourism sites in the city Centre. Thereafter, drive through the rolling hills with s atop over at Lake Kivu for scenic viewing and fresh cold breezes. Cross over to Congo for an overnight at your lodge.
Day 2: Hiking Nyiragongo Volcano
Have an early morning breakfast and transfer to Kibatsi patrol station where registration and briefing on the safety of hiking Nyiragongo takes place. This is the starting pint of Nyiragongo volcano hiking. The hike starts at 10:00am and all travelers are expected to be there by that time. Together with porters and ranger guides, start a hike up to conquer the active volcano. Remember to wear closed hiking boots which ease your hiking on the slippery rocks. The hiking time to reach the summit is roughly 6-7 hours depending on your physical fitness and hiking speed. Stay overnight on the slopes of Nyiragongo to experience the boiling lava lake which glows at night. Warm jackets, sweaters and ponchos are highly advised to deal with very cold night weather at the summit of the Volcano. Also, the slopes of the volcano are covered with forests which shelter various birds and wild animals.
Day 3: Descend & transfer to Kigali
Rise up very early, have breakfast and get ready to hike down. Enjoy your last moments at the summit and slopes of the active Nyiragongo Volcano. Thereafter, descend to meet your driver guide waiting for you at the base of the volcano. Transfer to Kigali for your flight or overnight stay.
